Bargain CDs In Second Hand Shops

There's this stall in the local market that sells all kind of second hand CDs and 12s that I like to visit every now and again to see what they've got on on offer.
The best thing about second hand music shops, is that people usually sell the most exciting musical gems that you never thought you'd get hold of, or ever stuff that isn't that rare, but it's now a classic. (A good example of this is that I once bought 'Mr. Oizo – Analog Worms Attack' for three quid)
I don't know why people sell these sort of things, but I'd imagine it has something to do with musicians developing heavy coke/crack habits, and so they sell all their music at reduced prices to fund said habit.
Doesn't bother me, I get to buy stuff I either lost or never bought first time round, for ridiculous prices.

Today I bought:

DJ Shadow – High Noon
Which has the extended overhaul of Organ Donor on it
Unkle – Rabbit In Your Headlights
With the instrumental & 3D Mix etc
Radiohead – Paranoid Android
Which is ace, because it's  got Polyethelene on it!
Death In Vegas – Dirge
Including Micronauts Mix, filthy electro
Mylo – Destroy Rock & Roll
Riton Mix
2001: A Space Odyssey – Sound Track
DJ Shadow – Midnight In A Perfect World

All for like 15 quid. Deal done, bargain

Last.fm

To be honest I’d stumbled across last.fm a few times when googling for various tracks around the place, but never really paid much attention to what it was or did (yea so I can be naive like that). But after a bit of investigation when I was bored, I worked out the whole point of it.
Without going into too much detail, it’s a bit of a social networking site, based primarily on the music people are into. You download a peice of software that sits stealthily on your PC (or Mac if you’re that way inclined) and it just pays attention to what you’re listening to in iTunes or Windows Media Player, and then reports it back to the site, thus anyone who views your profile can see what you’re into, and laugh at your pathetic/impeccable taste (as if anyone has impeccable taste in music).
The people behind the site can probably explain it better than I can though;

What is Last.fm?
Last.fm is a service that records what you listen to, and then presents you with an array of interesting things based upon your tastes — artists you might like, users with similar taste, personalised radio streams, charts, and much more.

What is Scrobbling?
Scrobbling a song means that when you listen to it, the name of the song is sent to Last.fm and added to your music profile.
Once you’ve signed up and downloaded Last.fm, you can scrobble songs you listen to on your computer or iPod automatically. Start scrobbling yourself, and see what artists you really listen to the most. Songs you listen to will also appear on your Last.fm profile page for others to see.
Millions of songs are scrobbled every day. This data helps Last.fm to organise and recommend music to people; we use it to create personalised radio stations, and a lot more besides.
You can see what Last.fm users listened to the most last week by clicking the Charts button at the top of the page. Add your musical taste into the mix and help us get some decent music into the top 10.

The best bit though I reckon, is that you can have it output your recently listened to records to a .gif image, so you can whack it on your myspace/website/blog whatever, and everyone can have a good old butchers at what you’re listening to. (it’s always updated automatically, through internet magic)
eg; here’s the last ten tracks I’ve listened to on the old iTunes player thing…

 Muujun's Profile Page

So yea, thats pretty much it. Sign up, listen to some songs, everyone elses see’s what you’re listening too, and maybe reccomends stuff that’s similar, and the best bit is that the site will even point you in the direction of people who are into similar stuff to you, so you could end up talking to John Peel’s ghost, or a bloke called Dave who’s into The Village People.

Kids In Tracksuits

Just a quick one to say that anyone into Hip Hop beats, Jazz, Breaks or Big Beat, should check out the new LP from Kids in Tracksuits. Pomp had the album for a while, but he wouldn’t give me a copy (mainly because he’s about as reliable as ice, and still has my Evil Nine Fabric CD from about five months ago) so I just bought if off iTunes.
It’s one of those albums that work’s just as well in a club as it does in your lounge, although in places it makes your lounge feel like a club, and a club feel like your lounge.
I can’t be assed to write a whole load of bull about the album and stuff, or the boys themselves, so just do the right thing and check them out on the website below and save me the effort, you won’t regret it.

A Few Decent Podcasts

It seems these days, that every DJ, band, radio show, celebrity dog, mum (you get where I’m going with this…) has got a podcast these days.
Fair enough, I don’t have one at the moment, but with DJing and constantly doing mixes to send out to people, I may make one soon.
I’m probably not the only one, but I end up spending ages trying to find decent podcasts to try and fill the iPod with, so here’s a list, with links, of the podcasts I’m currently into:

Hospital Records
Evil Nine
Marine Parade
Justice
Trash A definite peice of history…
Knowledge Magazine (will find the url a bit later, or google it)
